Your first time moving is an exciting yet scary step in everyone’s life!
Moving is very bittersweet, and can be stressful if not planned and organized correctly. To have an easy and successful move, you should start the process weeks, and maybe even months early.
So, what exactly needs to be done to prepare for a big move? Here are some important tips to keep in mind:
- Start packing early. Begin packing as early as possible! This includes making sure that you have all the necessary materials to pack in an organized fashion, including boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap for fragile items and markers to label boxes. If packing becomes overwhelming for you, try to set small goals for yourself each day and focus on one room or area at a time.
- Label boxes. It is essential that everything is labeled so that you can remember which of your belongings are in what box! Taking the extra minute to label each box with what room it goes in, and a few words about what’s in the box, will save you dozens of hours while unpacking in your new place.
- Decide if you want to hire a moving company. Depending on how much you have to move, you may consider hiring a moving company. Try to allow 4-6 weeks before your move for the moving company to be able to come to your house and prepare for how everything will be shipped, packed, loaded and delivered. It is also good to set delivery dates in stone so that you know exactly when all your belongings will arrive.
- Make sure necessary people are aware of your new address. Once you know what your new address will be, make a list of all the necessary people that you will need to reach out to for your new address. This includes USPS, medical offices, banks, or credit card companies. If you have children, it is important to remember to notify the school system as well, so they will know of the change.
Do you feel ready for your first time moving? With a little planning, patience, (and deep breathing), we know your move will be an abundant success!
