Come celebrate Irish pride, tradition, and history during the Newport Saint Patrick’s Day Parade! The city celebrates their heritage with a month-long roster of St. Patty’s Day events, including the Parade, which celebrates its 62nd anniversary this Saturday, March 17.

Named one of the best St. Patrick’s Day Parades and Celebrations in New England by USA Today and Yankee Magazine, Newport’s first parade took place in 1956. Today, thousands of people line the streets of downtown to enjoy the two-hour parade featuring pipe and marching bands, fife and drum corps, reenactment units, and a host of local, state, and regional organizations including police and fire units, social/fraternal organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, and non-profits.

The parade will be followed by parties throughout town, family events, live music and more.

Not sure what to do there, or when the events are? Check out our guide below to get all the details:

Irish Pubs —

  1. O’Brien’s Pub

Though the summer is the ideal time to visit O’Brien’s, it’s open year-round and is a favorite hangout for many locals. You’re bound to be chilly after standing outside for the parade, but don’t worry, during the winter the pub is heated by wood stove. You can stay warm and enjoy some drinks here with your friends while you celebrate the Irish heritage. There is also indoor entertainment during the winter months to compliment the two pool tables and steel tip dart board. Be warned, there’s going to be a crazy amount of people waiting to get inside…so make sure you get there ASAP! This place to be for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

  1. Fastnet Irish Pub

The Fastnet Pub, named for the southernmost lighthouse in Ireland, is a traditional Irish pub. Their Pub offers over 30 draft beers, live music, and more, such as; ping pong, pool, foosball, and darts! This Pub has even starred in a few movies, recently appearing alongside Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix in Irrational Man. Come in for yourself to enjoy the atmosphere that brought Hollywood to our corner of Newport. Treat yourself to a drink during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
